About the Green Bay, DePere, Howard and Suamico, Wisconsin Area

Green Bay became part of the British Empire as a result of the French and Indian wars in 1763. When the United States annexed the area in 1783, a logging boom brought a surge of immigration to the Green Bay area. As the logging era came to an end, farmers and dairymen moved were attracted.

The city of Green Bay was incorporated in 1854, and was ranked as the third largest city in Wisconsin by the 1990 census. The impact of the logging industry is still felt in Green Bay. Three of the top 20 businesses are paper mills and two other businesses revolve around the paper industry. The area is also known as a regional medical center, home to the largest meat packing center east of the Mississippi and one of the top convention centers in the Midwest.

Green Bay has two symphony orchestras, an opera company, several local theatres and two colleges-St. Norbert College and UW-Green Bay. The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of UWGB brings outstanding cultural events to the area, including Broadway tours of Les Miserables and the Phantom of the Opera.

And, of course, the Green Bay Packers have an incredible 75-year history of outstanding players, coaches and championship football.

Real Estate Tips
Selling Your Home >Open House

If your home has been on the market for a few weeks, your real estate agent may suggest an "open house." Your agent puts up signs, gives you some pointers about how to prepare your home for showing and shows up early on Sunday morning. You may be tempted to stay around, but the best advice is to leave while your home is being shown!

When sellers are present at an open house, they can hamper the sales professional's ability to cultivate interested buyers, and can even squelch a sale. What would your response be, for instance, if someone strolls into your kitchen and says, "What awful wallpaper!" If prospective buyers know that you as the owner are present, they might feel reluctant to express their objections and concerns openly and directly to your agent. If your objective is to get your home SOLD, the best thing to do is to get out of the way and let the sales professional do the job.
